Contest Rules

1. Pictures must be submitted by 11:59 PM (CT) on Saturday, November 1, 2008 to: aftondays at livejournal dot com. Please include your LJ username in your e-mail.

2. The picture(s) you submit must have been taken by you. It doesn't matter when, so long asyou were the one with the camera at the time. Limit two contest entries per person.

3. The topic is the color purple. This means the subject of your photo should have something to do with the color purple. Keep in mind that people will judge the photos based on a variety of things, including whether or not they agree that your picture falls in line with the given topic.

4. Photos must be a minimum of 400px and a maximum of 1000px on their longest side. I can resize pictures if you are unable.

5. You may edit your photos. After all, editing is part of digital photography. But please do not edit the color to make something purple that is actually not!

6. All may enter and are encouraged to do so, but I reserve the right to deny entry for any reason I see fit. If entry is denied, my reasons will be given to the entrant and a new photo may be submitted if it complies with these rules.

Feel free to advertise with the above graphic. Hotlinking is fine by me (at least in this case ;))! Go ahead and spread the word.

Yes, today is kellcheckerKellie's birthday and purple is her favorite color. So happy birthday to her!

I have a question about editing. What does that include? Can you mess with filters and colors (as long as you're not adding the key color I assume?) and cropping and contrast adjustment etc? Photoshop has tons of options so I want to stay within the guidelines. :)

Well, my hope is that no one will use the editing freedom to make a photo look nothing like it originally did--so like, changing something from pink to purple, or something like that, is not cool. But of course, I can't check up on you! But as far as contrast adjustment, cropping, filters, hue/saturation, all that...that's fine. :)

This is where a trip to the lavender fields in France would have come in handy. ;)

Oh that's a good idea! The lavender...and the trip, but I don't think I can swing that. :) Too bad my lavender photos are lame.

How purple does "purple" need to be? I'm thinking of a color that is between burgundy and has a name but it's escaped me.

Oh, I don't know that there is a standard...if you think it's purple, then maybe others will as well. If you are worried that others may not consider it to be purple then you may want to consider a different subject for your picture(s).
